“The Cutting Edge: Jevgenija Davidova’s Take on Hair, Fashion, and the Stylist’s Chair”

Interview with Jevgenija Davidova

A celebrated hair and makeup stylist and co-owner of PAM PAM Beauty Studio in Riga, Latvia, Jevgenija Davidova stands at the forefront of the fashion and beauty industry. As a creative partner for key events like Riga Fashion Week and the author of professional hair artist training courses, Jevgenija shares her thoughts on the art and science of hairstyling.

1. Jimmy: So Jevgenija, how do you consult a client about adopting a new hairstyle?

Jevgenija: It’s a tricky question! It certainly depends on why they want the change—length, styling complexity, or simply a need for a fresh look. I like to highlight the benefits to help solve their hair concerns and make them happy.

2. Jimmy: Why did you choose the hairdressing field?

Jevgenija: Because hairdressing is pure magic! There’s no other place like a beauty salon, teeming with beauty and creativity.

3. Jimmy: What are some of the main duties that hairdressers perform regularly?

Jevgenija: Beyond cutting, dyeing, and styling, it’s about consulting on hair condition and suggesting beneficial treatments.

4. Jimmy: What skills have made you successful as a hairdresser?

Jevgenija: I’d say, borrowing from Johnny Carson, it’s desire! The longing to be what you want to be is a stronger driver than any skill alone.

5. Jimmy: How do we make our hair strong and treat it well?

Jevgenija: Remember these! Regular and appropriate hair care, professional cosmetics, and good health are paramount.

6. Jimmy: What’s the toughest thing about being a hairdresser?

Jevgenija: Accept that you work with and for people. You need to be physically and mentally present, allowing for learning and self-belief.

7. Jimmy: Is there a type of shampoo that’s best for everyone?

Jevgenija: No single shampoo fits all. Consultation with your hairstylist is key to finding what suits your unique hair needs.

8. Jimmy: What’s the biggest reason for hair fall, and how do you think it can be controlled?

Jevgenija: Stress and health issues lead the pack. Hair reacts to what happens inside you, much more than to products or external elements.

9. Jimmy: How do you handle it when a client wants a look that won’t suit them?

Jevgenija: The customer’s word isn’t gospel. I explain gently why it wouldn’t work and suggest alternatives.

10. Jimmy: Any special skills you’re sure not many have?

Jevgenija: After more than 20 years in the beauty game, I credit my patience and consistency for my achievements.
