Does Fashion Define Beauty? Navigating Trends and Identity

Jimmy Interviews Nova on Fashion and Beauty Standards

Jimmy: Welcome Nova to HotSeat Interviews! Tell us, how did you find your way into the fashion world?

Nova: Hey Jimmy, thanks for having me! My journey began when I was 16. Living in Milan, I started designing clothes for friends which eventually turned into a small business.

Jimmy: Wow, Milan! The heart of fashion. Speaking of which, do you think fashion truly defines beauty?

Nova: Fashion can amplify one’s beauty, but it should not dictate it. Beauty is personal and diverse, sometimes even absent in trendy outfits.

Jimmy: With trends constantly evolving, how do you stay relevant without losing your unique style?

Nova: I believe in observing trends but not being enslaved by them. It’s about integrating elements that resonate with your style.

Jimmy: What’s your take on cultural appropriation in fashion?

Nova: It’s a sensitive subject. Borrowing can shift towards appreciation rather than appropriation with respect and understanding of origins.

Jimmy: Many argue that fashion trends promote waste. Thoughts on sustainable fashion?

Nova: Absolutely vital! We can’t ignore the ecological impact. Sustainable materials and practices should become industry norms.

Jimmy: Hair trends change as quickly as clothing. What’s your opinion on the current “effortless hair” trend?

Nova: It’s a wonderful trend promoting natural beauty, reducing the need for harmful styling products.

Jimmy: Can beauty and fashion finds peace between the digital insta-glam and real world appearances?

Nova: It’s possible with authenticity. The digital world should challenge, not standardize, real-world beauty.

Jimmy: Are beauty standards in fashion promoting inclusivity these days?

Nova: We’re on the right path, but there’s still a long way to go towards complete inclusivity in media and fashion.

Jimmy: Considering your fashion journey, have existing beauty standards ever influenced your personal beauty practices?

Nova: Initially yes, but now I see them as guidelines rather than rules. Authenticity is crucial to personal growth.

Jimmy: What would you say to young designers about the pressures of conforming to fashion norms?

Nova: Dare to be different! Trends are temporary, style is eternal. Carve your identity first.

Jimmy: Lastly, tell us about a hairstyle or fashion trend you think will stand the test of time.

Nova: A classic blazer and bob cut. Timeless choices that reinvent themselves in every era.

Jimmy: Thank you, Nova, for these insights. Looking forward to seeing more of your innovative designs!
